The Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a National Landscape is full of surprises and there really is something for everyone. Below is just a suggestion of some of the things you may wish to see or do nearby. We have lots of additional information at the cottages or visit our local visitor centres in Burford or Lechlade (Library). Plus our team are always happy to make personal suggestions.
Towns & Villages – Burford, Witney, Stow on-the-wold, Fairford, Lechlade on-Thames, Kelmscot, Bibury, Bourton on the Water, Moreton-in-the-Marsh, The Chippings, Northleach, Coln St Aldwyn, Eastleach, The Slaughters, Oxford and Cirencester – are all within very easy reach of our cottages.
Family Fun – Cotswold Wildlife Park, Adam Henson’s Farm Park (BBC Countryfile presenter), Crocodiles of the World, Birdland at Bourton, The Cotswold Water Park, Sudeley or Warwick Castle.
Historic Houses – Kelmscot Manor, Buscot Park, Blenheim Palace, Snowshill Manor, Bowood House.
Museums – Ashmoleum, Corinium Museum, The Natural History Museum Oxford and Pitt Rivers Oxford.
Gardens and Arboretums – Hidcote, Rousham, Seizencote, Bourton House, Highgrove Westonbirt and Batsford arboretum, Kifstgate, Milldene.
Events – Countryfile live, Tetbury Woolsack Races, cheese Rolling, Badminton Horse trials and local village fetes (both Southrop and Shilton have summer fetes and Open Garden weekends).
Festivals – Cheltenham Literary festival, Jazz Festival, Cornbury Festival, The Big Festival, Wilderness Festival, Cheltenham Gold Cup racing.
Further afield – visit Stratford upon-Avon, take in a play or visit Shakespeare home, Bath, Stonehenge, Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust or Bristol.
Shop – There are many lively towns such as Witney and Cirencester, as well as major supermarkets at Witney and Carterton (closest to our cottages). Farm shops such as Daylesford at Kingham sell organic produce and the Hobbs House Bakery boys are local to The Cotswolds, so pick up some of their delicious bread.
Fashion designer bargains can be had at the World Famous Bicester Outlet Village and Antique and Art shops can be found in most major Cotswold towns.
