Footpaths start, literally from culls’ front door. The Cotswolds is a paradise for walkers—and that goes for dogs too. With over 3,000 miles of public footpaths, your biggest challenge will be choosing which way to go.
Around our part of The Cotswolds there are so many footpaths and lanes to walk with your enthusiastic pup but go further afield and the world is your oyster - villages or towns, rolling gentle slopes or hills, village streams like the Leach or Windrush to mighty rivers such as The Thames.
From Culls Cottage you can walk straight from the door and over the fields to Eastleach or Lechlade. Livestock is everywhere in the Cotswolds as well as ground nesting birds at certain times of the year, so always keep your dog on a lead and follow the Countryside Code.
Hop in the car and go further afield and there are walks gentle or rugged.
We love the Bibury to Coln St Aldwyns Loop – A gentle circular walk through postcard-perfect villages and meadows.You will pass by Arlington Row weavers cottages which are pictures in every book on the Cotswolds. Bibury is often very hard to park in so park in Coln and start the loop from there.
The Cotswold Way National Trail is a 102-mile route known for its stunning views and open fields. We are not suggesting you do all of it but small sections are all well signposted.
Batsford Arboretum is a wonderful spot especially in autumn. – Dogs on leads are welcome; a scenic stroll surrounded by beautiful trees. There is a great café there too for the end of walk refreshment.
After a long walk, there’s nothing better than a hearty meal or a cream tea—and the good Cotswold news is, many Cotswolds establishments roll out the red carpet for dogs. So many families have a dog, so you’be welcomed just about everywhere.
