Have fun in The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and much of it lies within the counties of Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

It is most famous for its honey-hued stone buildings and villages, but there is so much more. Below is just a small selction of some of our favourites.

Towns & Villages – Burford, Broadway, Witney, Stow-on-the-Wold, Fairford, Lechlade-on-Thames, Kelmscot, Bibury, Bourton on the Water, Moreton-in-Marsh, Chipping Norton and Chipping Camden, Northleach, Coln St Aldwyn, Eastleach, The Slaughters, Oxford and Cirencester – are all within easy reach of our cottages.

Family Fun – Cotswold Wildlife Park, Adam Henson’s Farm Park (BBC Countryfile presenter), Crocodiles of the World, Birdland at Bourton, The Cotswold Water Park, Fairytale Farm, Sudeley and Warwick Castle.

Historic Houses – Kelmscot Manor (William Morris' house), Buscot Park, Blenheim Palace, Snowshill Manor, Bowood House.

Museums – Ashmoleum, Corinium Museum, The Natural History Museum Oxford and Pitt Rivers Oxford.

Gardens and Arboretums – Hidcote, Rousham, Seizencote, Bourton House, Highgrove, Westonbirt and Batsford Arboretum, Kifstgate and Milldene.

Events – Countryfile Live, Tetbury Woolsack Races, Cheese Rolling, Badminton Horse Trials and local village fetes (both Southrop and Shilton have summer fetes and Open Garden weekends).

Festivals – Cheltenham Literary festival, Jazz Festival, Cornbury Festival, The Big Festival, Wilderness Festival, Cheltenham Gold Cup racing.

Further afield – visit Stratford-upon-Avon, take in a play or visit Shakespeare’s birthplace. Visit Bath, Stonehenge, Slimbridge Wildfowl Trust, Warwick Castle, Waddesdon Manor or Bristol with all of its attractions.

Shop – There are many lively towns including: Oxford, Witney and Cirencester. There are major supermarkets in Witney and Carterton (closest to our cottages). Farm shops such as Jeremy Clarkson's Diddly Squat Farm shop at Chadlington, Breurn Farmshop and  Daylesford at Kingham all sell wonderful local produce. Sourdough Revolution's fantastic bread can be purchased in nearby Lechlade or at the LynWood & Co cafes nearby.

Fashion designer bargains can be had at the world famous Bicester Outlet Village. The Cotswold towns and villages are great places for Antique and Art gallery shopping.
